The bike parking boxes on the upper level of Rathaus Schöneberg can be used with innovative technology. We explain step by step how this works.

A total of 64 parking slots are available at Rathaus Schöneberg, half of which are located on an upper level. The rail system installed in these boxes makes it easier to park without any effort thanks to a gas tension spring with hydraulic support, which is triggered by a button press. The innovative technology also includes two patented industrial brushes that keep the bike stable and a hook that ensures a secure stand even when the bike is tilted.

Parking in the upper boxes

What sounds complex is easy to do the first time you test it: if you want to park in the upper box, make sure that the bike is no higher than 108 cm and weighs no more than 30 kg. Most bikes correspond to these common sizes. If you are not sure about the height of your bike, there is a measuring aid next to the terminal screen. The rail system accepts tires of different widths.

Step-by-step instructions:

Anyone starting a parking process in one of the upper boxes should check in advance whether their own bike is suitable in terms of weight and height. The instructions for bike parking can also be found on the inside of the box door.

  1. after the door to the box opens, pull the rail out horizontally as far as it will go.
  2. while holding down the button between the rail handles, simultaneously lower the rail downwards.
  3. the wheel can now be adjusted by placing the rear wheel on the rail and pushing it upwards with both hands. You may only park backwards in the upper boxes!
  4. Next, hook the bike into the hook on the rear wheel rim so that it remains firmly in place.
  5. press and hold the button between the rail handles again to slowly raise the sliding system to a completely horizontal position. Thanks to the hydraulic system (which is operated via the button), this is child's play.
  6. now just push the rail into the box as far as it will go and close the door.

Upper or lower box?

Parking in the upper boxes is now possible! If you want to charge your e-bike while parking, choose one of the lower boxes, where there are also charging options. Simply indicate when reserving or starting the parking process whether you would prefer a bike box on the bottom. If possible, the system will assign you a suitable box. You can find this option at the terminal by entering the desired number of bikes.

The Velobrix boxes, which are located at Rathaus Schöneberg, were built by RWC Factory GmbH from Chemnitz.
